'Weaving by the Sea 2015' featured six workshops over 7 days, combining traditional and contemporary approaches to basketmaking and combing willow with a wide variety of Mediterranean materials.

1st Week, 2nd - 4th of September 2015
'Exploring Structures and Textures' with Mai Hvid Joergensen
Working with willow and Mediterranean materials such as olive and date palm, explore the variety of textures and patterns created by different weaving techniques and structures.
Languages of the course will be English, Danish and Norwegian.

'Braiding with Mediterranean Materials' with Tim Johnson
Inspired by English and Spanish braiding techniques work with a variety of soft materials to create mats, baskets and bags.

This is the triangular fishtrap weaving technique used by fishermen in the Mediterranean.

Design and make your own favourite handbag weaving with willow, date palm, olive twigs, bark and rush. (Leather
straps for the handbags are not included in the price of the course).
'Exploring Twining with Mediterranean Materials with Tim Johnson
Working
with a variety of local soft and rigid materials we will explore a
variety of woven structures to make baskets and wall pieces. Starting
with plain twining we will move on to alternate pair twining, cross warp
twining, open lattice twining and wrapped twining.

By
popular demand Monica will offer this course twice for 2015, for those
participants wishing to take part in both Nansa courses you will have the
opportunity to explore a variety of shapes and traditional variations
of the technique.
